Woman taken by LifeLine after crashing in Franklin field

A Franklin woman was taken by LifeLine with serious injuries after a single-car crash Friday morning in Franklin.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Bargersville Community Fire Department and Franklin Fire Department were dispatched about 10 a.m. Friday to Division Road, between County Road 100 West and Centerline Road in Franklin, on the report of an accident with injury, according to the sheriff’s office.

When they arrived, deputies found Shirley Hittle, 77, trapped inside her Chevy sedan with severe injuries, chief deputy Andrew Barnhart said.

Initial observations show the vehicle swerved several times while eastbound on Division Road before leaving the roadway on the south side, striking three utility poles and flipping two or three times, according to a sheriff’s office accident report. At one point, the car was airborne, and it came to rest about 500 feet from the road, the report said.

Deputies and firefighters searched but did not find any additional passengers in the car or the field, according to the sheriff’s office.

Hittle was transported by LifeLine to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she is listed in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s office.

There is no indication that alcohol or other drugs played a role in the accident. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, the sheriff’s office said. The investigation is ongoing.

Division Road was closed for more than an hour.
