Boys tennis

Gillespie sets mark in victory

Senior Quinten Gillespie established a new school record with his 71st career No. 1 singles victory in Whiteland’s 3-2 win over Avon on Saturday. Ty McCullars and Dylan Gross also earned points at second and third singles for the Warriors (13-1).

Braves notch WIC victory

Indian Creek collected a 4-1 win at Sullivan. The Braves (8-2, 5-1 WIC) swept the doubles matches, with Jake Mitchell and Cass Mitchell winning in the first spot and the No. 2 tandem of Cole Allison and Trent Volz also coming out on top. Brendan Conner and Aiden Pemberton added points at second and third singles, respectively.

Warriors blank Cougars

Whiteland shut out Greenwood Christian for the second straight year, posting a 5-0 road win on Saturday. Tristan Thomas tallied a pair of goals for the Warriors (5-3-1), while Ben Morgan, Braden Hall and Yahir Lugardo each added one.

Girls soccer

Trojans edged in road match

Class 3A No. 20 Center Grove dropped a 2-1 decision at 10th-ranked Castle on Saturday. Lexi Glover had the lone goal for the Trojans (4-3) off a Peyton Murphy assist.

Roncalli comes up short

Roncalli was defeated by Guerin Catholic, 2-0, on Saturday.

Volleyball

Cougars serve up sweep

Olivia Shingleton had seven of her team’s 18 service aces as Greenwood Christian rolled past Indiana School for the Deaf on Saturday, 25-9, 25-7, 25-6. Izzy Reed had 14 kills and Riley Ratliff 29 assists for the Cougars.

Cross country

Klem sets mark for Grizzly Cubs

Franklin freshman Lauren Klem posted a time of 18:22 at the Brown County Eagle Classic on Saturday, setting a new school record. Klem finished fourth overall to help the Grizzly Cub girls to a sixth-place team finish in the large school meet.

In the small school meet, Indian Creek’s girls finished second as a team. Ninth-grader Phoebe Dowty was third individually with a time of 19:48. The Braves were fifth in the boys race.

Warrior boys earn victory

Host Whiteland rolled to a first-place finish at its own invitational, posting a team score of 26 points. Greenwood was second with a total of 51, while GCA was sixth. The Warriors were a close second behind New Palestine in the girls race, with the Woodmen third.

Girls golf

Trojans edge Grizzly Cubs

Center Grove and Franklin placed third and fourth, respectively, in the Franklin Central Invitational at Smock on Saturday. The Trojans wound up with a team total of 320, paced by Meg Fosnot (75). Abby Rich added an 80, and Lanie DeHaven and 81, while Sage Parsetich and Camille Short each shot 84. The Grizzly Cubs finished at 324 behind Liv Parramore (75), Ava Ray (79), Ellie Beavins (82) and Kara Heuchan (88).

The Center Grove White team, meanwhile, finished fifth at the Miller Invitational, which was won by top-ranked Carmel. Lexi Stuart and Lauren Pagel paced the Trojans with rounds of 81 and 84, respectively. 

Lancers second in conference

Edinburgh placed second in the Mid-Hoosier Conference tournament on Saturday at Timbergate, finishing behind Southwestern with a team score of 466. Morgan Calhoun led the Lancers with a 95.
