Shepherd finishes third at amateur event

Duke sophomore golfer Erica Shepherd shot a 4-under-par 67 in the final round to place third at the Golfweek Caledonia Amateur in Pawleys Island, S.C. The Center Grove product carded a total score of 206 (-7), one shot behind tournament winner Emily Mahur.

Louisville senior defensive back Russ Yeast had three tackles and a fumble recovery in the Cardinals’ season-opening 35-21 win against Western Michigan.

Louisiana senior kicker Nate Snyder contributed a field goal, point-after and five kickoffs averaging 57.2 yards to the Ragin’ Cajuns’ 31-14 upset victory at No. 23 Iowa State.

The Grace College women’s golf team finished third of seven teams at the Battle at Blackthorn in South Bend. Sophomore Lucy Young took seventh individually with a score of 84-78—162.

IUPUI sophomore Josh Campbell recorded a personal-best time of 27 minutes, 29.2 seconds as the Jaguars competed in the John McNichols Invitational at Indiana State.
