Cross country

Whiteland boys, Franklin girls win

Led by a 1-2-3 finish at the top, Franklin’s girls coasted to victory at the Mid-State Conference meet on Saturday. Whiteland won the boys meet behind a first-place finish from Will Jefferson, who crossed the line in 15:29.53.

Lauren Klem was first for the Grizzly Cub girls in 18:49.85, followed by teammates Lillian Lacy and Jenna Newton. Runner-up Whiteland was led by Victoria Jackson, who was fourth in 19:51.57.

Franklin’s boys were fourth, led by Anthony McDonald (17:08.97). Greenwood got fifth-place individual finishes from Conner Watson and Selena Piñon; the Woodmen boys and girls places sixth and seventh, respectively.

Trojan boys second in MIC

Center Grove’s boys were narrowly defeated by Carmel at the MIC meet on Saturday. Drew Costelow was second individually, with Parker Mimbela (fourth), Griffin Hennessy (fifth), Raef Sauer (ninth) and Kyle Montgomery (11th) joining him on the all-conference team.

The Trojans were third in the girls meet, with Lily Brunsman (10th) earning all-MIC honors.

Trojans sweep home tourney

Center Grove won both of its matches in the Trojan Classic on Saturday, posting a 2-0 win over Roncalli before routing Columbus East by a 7-2 score. Makensie Kramer scored three times in the win over the Olympians, while Macy Detty and Peyton Murphy each scored once in both games for the Trojans (10-4). Paige Waskom and Lexi Glover also found the net on the day.

Roncalli beat Terre Haute North 1-0 in its other match.

Boys soccer

Trojans top Highlanders

Ely Detty scored twice and Aaron McDaniel added a goal in Center Grove’s 3-1 win over Floyd Central on Saturday. Christian Badolato had a pair of assists for the Trojans and Ethan McGee contributed another.

Volleyball

Cougars eliminated in PAAC semis

Greenwood Christian beat Liberty Christian in two sets to open the PAAC tournament before being knocked out by Muncie Burris 25-16, 25-10 in the second round Saturday at Shortridge.

Warriors top Lancers

Whiteland pulled off a 25-12, 25-15 sweep of Edinburgh when the two teams met up during the Cougar Challenge at Greenfield-Central.

Boys tennis

Lancers drop tourney finale

Edinburgh reached the finals of the Hope Heritage Day Classic before suffering a 3-2 defeat against host Hauser on Saturday morning. Max Blandford and Chase Littlejohn were unbeaten on the day at first and third singles, respectively.

Center Grove loses two

Sixth-ranked Center Grove hosted a pair of top-10 teams at the Trojan Classic, losing to No. 1 Carmel 5-0 and dropping a close 3-2 battle with No. 10 Homestead. The Trojans finish the regular season at 13-5.
