Locals struggle early at state girls golf

Prairie View Golf Club got the better of most of the players competing during the opening round of the girls golf state finals on Friday, and the local competitors were not immune.

Sixth-ranked Center Grove heads into today’s second and final round in ninth place in the team standings after posting a total of 353, 48 strokes back of leader Evansville North.

Freshman Camille Short led the Trojans with an 86 (14 over par), while sophomore Sage Parsetich was one shot behind her at 87 (+15). Senior Meg Fosnot (89) and junior Lanie DeHaven (91) capped the scoring for Center Grove. Freshman Abby Rich shot a 95.

Three other Johnson County golfers were competing as individuals. Franklin senior Ellie Beavins finished with an 86, landing in a tie for 42nd with Short, while her teammate, junior Ava Ray, was tied for 54th along with Greenwood junior Maura Guilfoy after both shot rounds of 88.
