Greenwood council approves 500-home subdivision

Greenwood approved plans that will bring more than 500 new houses to the city.

The Greenwood City Council on Monday unanimously approved the Arbor Homes development. Arbor plans to build 505 houses on 231 acres of farmland on Whiteland Road, between Honey Creek Road and State Road 135 in Greenwood.

The development will be split into two sections. Section A will house 338 of Arbor’s traditional-style houses, zoned by the city as medium residential and ranging in size between 1,300 and 3,200 square feet. The houses will be similar to those found in Arbor’s Cherry Tree Walk subdivision in Greenwood, and cost about $270,000, Paul Munoz, entitlement manager at Arbor Homes, told the council Monday night.

Section B will house 167 of the developer’s new Silverthorne Homes, zoned by the city as residential large. The houses have larger layouts ranging in size between 1,600 and 3,200 square feet and higher-end interior designs. They will cost about $370,000.

Both styles of houses will be built with HardiePlank siding and brick or stone masonry. There will be no vinyl siding, as requested by the city, Munoz said.

Arbor also plans to set aside 71 acres of space for a pool, playground, dog park, 2.7-mile long biking and walking trail, and a disc golf course, he said.

The new neighborhood will likely add hundreds of students to Center Grove Community Schools.

Construction of the first houses in the first section of the neighborhood is expected to beginning in early 2022, Munoz said.
