Carolyn Lou Combs

BARGERSVILLE, IN.

Carolyn Lou (McCloughan) Combs, 85, of Bargersville, IN passed away Wednesday March 17, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 23, 1935 in Noble County, Indiana to Ralph Hile McCloughan and Lucille Fay (Yeager) McCloughan. She graduated from Elkhart High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Franklin College and her Master’s degree from University of Indianapolis. She married Joe Richard “Dick” Combs on May 25, 1958 at the First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, IN. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2020.

Carolyn taught second grade for Clark Pleasant Schools for more than 20 years. She was a member of First Christian Church Bargersville where she was in Christian Women’s Fellowship, taught Sunday school and helped with Vacation Bible School. Her laugh rang out from the basement and you could hear it all through the church.

Carolyn was a member of Providence Homemakers and Nimble Thimbles Quilt Club. She was an avid quilter and, over the years, won many Johnson County Fair ribbons for her hand-stitched quilts.

Carolyn enjoyed socializing, especially playing various card games like Euchre and bridge. She has fun playing Bunco with the Bargersville Bunco Club.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe Richard Combs, her parents, and her sisters, Edna (McCloughan) Schultz and Arleen (McCloughan) Lantz.

She is survived by her children, Karl Kevin (Thalia) Combs, Kim Combs, and Kristi Combs of Bargersville, IN, and Tina (Dennis) Burke of Dallas, TX; Siblings Betty (Jim) Manning, Linda (Jim) Vandermark, Steven (Sharon) McCloughan, Duane (Judi) McCloughan; Siblings-in-law Dean (Arleen – deceased) Lantz, Marilyn (John – deceased) Combs, Betty Combs, Judy (Jack – deceased) Nann; Grandchildren Joshua (Jessica) Combs, Jeremiah (Amanda) Combs, Bethany Burke, Spencer (Alex Barnes) Burke, and Brittany Combs; four great grandsons; and several nephews and nieces, including Allison (Cory) McConnaughhay.

Friends may call Sunday, March 21, 2021 from 1 PM until 5 PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Social distancing and masks will be required. The Reverend Dustin Hite will conduct a graveside service on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 2PM at Hopewell Cemetery in Franklin, IN.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
