Girls tennis

Braves sweep Artesians

Indian Creek blanked Martinsville on Thursday, 5-0, with three of the wins coming in three sets. Emilee Scott and Olivia Perry went the distance at first doubles, as did Avery Burress and Addy Tunell in the second spot and Lauren Lewis at No. 3 singles. Lauren Foster and Zoe Rayback took their singles points in straight sets.

Woodmen edge Olympians

Greenwood picked up three straight-set wins to get past visiting Columbus East, 3-2. Marissa Linville was victorious at first singles, Sophia Davidson and Brooklyn Hanson were winners at No. 1 doubles and the second pair of Ashlee Walton and Ava Stein won as well.

Grizzly Cubs roll to victory

Franklin was a 5-0 winner over Bishop Chatard. Rylie Wilkison and Ailyn Hendricks were triumphant at first and second singles, Haylie and Chelsie Rayl remained unbeaten at No. 1 doubles, and Emma Sappenfield and Haley Haldeman won at second doubles.

Boys golf

Cougars top Lancers

Greenwood Christian defeated Edinburgh at Smock on Thursday, 170-217. Max Blandford led the Lancers with a 47.

Woodmen outdo Cardinals

Medalist Jackson Watkins fired a 33 to lead Greenwood past Southport, 155-171. Conner Chase added a 38 and Eli Poe carded a 40 for the Woodmen.

Track and field

Woodmen place second, third

Greenwood’s boys finished second and the girls third in a three-way meet with Plainfield and Martinsville on Thursday. The boys got individual victories from Dylan Mayhew in the shot put and Brayden Gardner in the discus, while Ellie Irwin (high jump) and Siena Halfaker (100 hurdles) won for the girls.

Moore, Leonard chosen for Hall

Center Grove coach Eric Moore and former Franklin College coach Mike Leonard were named as part of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame’s 2021 induction class. Check out next Monday’s Daily Journal for more on the two local honorees.

Alford camps move to Huntington

After 33 years in central Indiana, the Steve Alford Basketball Camp has been moved to Huntington University this summer. The camp will run June 21-24. For more information, call 317-430-6778.
