Indian Creek football falls at Sullivan

To say that this week was a difficult one for Indian Creek’s football program would have been an understatement.

Friday night’s 42-0 loss at Sullivan didn’t help matters — but interim head coach Dan Rector did his best to remain upbeat.

The Braves (2-6, 1-2 WIC), shaken the sudden resignation of coach Steve Spinks earlier in the week, fell into a 35-0 hole during the first half and never recovered.

“The kids responded really well in practice this week, and I’m really proud of them for that,” Rector said. “They came out, they fought hard … it was just a matter of we really struggled with execution.”

Indian Creek crossed midfield on a couple of occasions during the first half and got inside the Golden Arrows’ 10-yard line on its final drive, but it was unable to put any points up on the board.

Rector saw some positives during some of those possessions that he believes the Braves can build on for next Friday’s home game against Northview; eliminating the drive-killing mistakes, he said, will be the key.

Fortunately, he noted, each game offers a clean slate.

“That’s the great thing about sports,” Rector said. “You get a chance to do it again next week.”
