Greenwood man charged with resisting arrest

Prosecutors charged a Greenwood man after he resisted arrest during a Whiteland incident.

Craig Allen Cross, 34, of Greenwood, was charged with resisting law enforcement, a misdemeanor. If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail.

Whiteland police were called to the 600 block of Walnut Street shortly after 10 p.m. Monday for a civil matter after Cross reported a woman had hidden his stuff, including his firearms. When police arrived, he appeared to be intoxicated and had slurred speech and an unsteady balance, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Thursday in Johnson County Superior Court 3.

When police spoke to the woman at the home, Cross yelled at police to do their job and get his guns back or get out of his house. The woman told police he did not have any contractual interests in the home, and she did not want him there, according to court documents.

When police tried to get Cross to leave, he threatened an officer, who requested backup, court documents said.

Outside the home, Cross continued to argue with officers, and repeatedly asked them to take him to jail, according to court documents.

Cross tried to re-enter the home, and officers told him to sit down, but he refused and tried to pull away from them. Cross was put on the ground and handcuffed. During the struggle, one of the officers received a cut on his face, court documents said.

Cross was taken to the Johnson County jail. He was released on $4,300 bond. An initial hearing has been set for Nov. 1.
