Rodelo Sison Carandang

GREENWOOD

Lovingly known as “Odie” or “Odz,” he was born July 18, 1964. Born in Manila, Philippines, he moved to the U.S. with family in 1968. Growing up in Greenwood, Ind., he also lived in Los Angeles, CA and Miami, Fl.

He is preceded in death by parents, Rodolfo A. Carandang and Elvie S. Carandang, as well as his very close maternal grandmother, Iluminada deGala Sison.

He is survived by loving partner, Mark Sink; sisters, Amour (Miguel) Lopez and Roscel Carandang; brothers, Roel (Kathy) Carandang, Rodolfo “Jojo” Carandang, Jr., and Rovin (Melissa) Carandang; many nieces and nephews he loved very dearly; and a large Filipino family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and Godchildren. He also leaves behind a tribe of friends he considered family.

Odie attended Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic (Grade) School, Center Grove High School, and Butler University School of Music with a Major in Music Performance & Theory, Minor in Dramatic Arts. Always involved in school music programs and community arts, Odie became a seasoned vocalist and musician and loved writing music. He played many instruments, but his passion was the flute which he always carried around with him and keyboards. He loved teaching children music and taught various age groups at many schools throughout his lifetime. He was in color guard in high school and competed nationally with City Slickers. Even in his adult life, you always see him tossing colorful flags.

Odie was an animal lover and had the gift of communicating with them. He loved the great outdoors and often would hike, spelunk and spend time near or on the water. His love for social justice always placed him where others would not go, but he continued to forge forward with a loud voice and a courageous heart. Odie was always on the quest for the unknown, especially for the elusive legendary Sasquatch. Whoever Odie encountered, loved him, always offering a smile and a helping hand, especially to those in need. Odie will always be remembered for his strong conviction and kind heart.

We will be celebrating his life on Friday, October 15, 2021, with visitation 11 a.m. and services at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens & Funeral Home, 1977 S State Rd 135, Greenwood, IN 46143.
