College notebook: Steele eclipses 100 yards in Ball State victory

Running back Carson Steele rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown for Ball State’s football team in a 38-31 victory at Eastern Michigan. The former Center Grove player leads the Cardinals in rushing yards this season with 379.

Center Grove

Senior defensive back Tyler Watson intercepted a pass and notched a team-high 13 tackles for Taylor in its 28-21 loss to Concordia (Michigan). Teammates Sam Bolin and Brad Boswell had four and three tackles, respectively, for the Trojans.

Rose-Hulman senior Alonzo Johnson carried 28 times for 96 yards in the team’s 62-7 defeat of Anderson.

Kansas State safety Russ Yeast had five tackles in the Wildcats’ 33-20 loss to Iowa State.

Wabash College defensive lineman Cade Lansdell had three tackles as the Little Giants lost to Wooster, 44-41.

Franklin College men’s soccer goalkeeper Ian Rowe finished with six saves as the Grizzlies shut out Hanover, 2-0.

St. Leo sophomore Alex Heck helped the Lions tie for second at the 17-team Copperhead Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida, with a three-round score of 216.

Caleb Tidd, a sophomore golfer at Coker University, tied for 22nd at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate at Morgantown, North Carolina, with a three-round total of 216.

Indiana men’s golf placed ninth at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Florida, with junior Noah Gillard shooting a 218 total and senior Ethan Shepherd a 220.

University of Indianapolis volleyball lost all three matches at the Midwest Region Crossover. Junior Emma Jones finished play with a total of 27 kills.

Indiana State sophomore Ashley Eck finished with eight digs and a service ace in a win at Drake, and provided nine digs and an ace in a five-set loss at Northern Iowa.

Santina Schembra had six digs and a kill for IU Southeast in a win over Ohio Valley College and five service aces and a dig in a victory against Ohio Christian.

St. Francis football player Isaiah Lacey made 10 tackles in the Cougars’ 56-10 loss to Marian.

Franklin College senior Sydney Logsdon was named honorable mention all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in women’s tennis.

Ball State linebacker Clayton Coll had eight tackles in the Cardinals’ 38-31 victory at Eastern Michigan.

Franklin College men’s cross country competed at the JennaStrong Fall Classic in Wilmington, Ohio, as sophomore Eli Cochrane placed 153rd in a time of 29:13.6 for the Grizzlies. Also taking part for Franklin College were Drew Hargis, Drew McGaha and Brayden Devenport.

IUPUI volleyball defeated Purdue-Fort Wayne. Sophomore setter Brooke Phillips finished with 46 assists, six digs, three kills and two service aces.

Butler freshman golfer Damon Dickey tied for 11th at the Xavier Invitational with a three-round total of 217.

Greenwood

Wabash College senior Ethan Pine was the cross country team’s top finisher at the Inter-Regional Rumble at Oberlin, placing 66th in a time of 27:13.6.

Noah McCracken was one of the Franklin College runners taking part in the JennaStrong Fall cross country Classic in Wilmington, Ohio, finishing the event in 31:28.9.

Franklin College sophomore Maecee Terhune was named honorable mention all-HCAC women’s tennis for a second consecutive season.

WHITELAND

Taylor volleyball player Sarah Scott finished with five kills in the team’s win at Goshen, eight kills, four digs and an assist in a five-set loss at Spring Arbor and eight kills and three digs in a loss at Indiana Wesleyan.
