College notebook: Gillard leads Hoosiers in fall finale

Indiana men’s golfers Noah Gillard and Ethan Shepherd tied for 26th and 32nd, respectively, as the Hoosiers finished eighth at The Williams Cup in Wilmington, North Carolina. Both former Center Grove players, Gillard carded a three-round total of 221 to Shepherd’s 223.

Center Grove

Marian earned runner-up at the Huntington Invite, with freshman Brandon Heffner posting scores of 67, 81 and 78 to tie for 14th overall.

St. Leo sophomore Alex Heck tied for 46th at the Southern Tide Invitational in Milton, Georgia with a three-round total of 227.

University of Indianapolis volleyball player Emma Jones had seven kills and two digs in the Greyhounds’ four-set loss to Lewis.

Indiana State sophomore Ashley Eck provided five assists, five digs and a service ace in a three-set loss at Evansville.

Goalkeeper Ian Rowe made five saves for Franklin College men’s soccer in a 2-0 victory against Defiance.

Indiana junior Trayce Jackson-Davis was unanimously picked to the preseason All-Big Ten men’s basketball team and named a preseason first team all-American by ESPN.com.

Kansas State senior safety Russ Yeast had two tackles and an interception as the Wildcats won at Texas Tech, 25-24.

Ball State freshman Carson Steele carried 11 times for 49 yards in the Cardinals’ 24-17 loss to visiting Miami of Ohio.

Indiana Wesleyan defensive lineman LJ Weems made four tackles as the Wildcats defeated host St. Francis, 23-21.

DePauw freshman receiver Trent Veith made a catch for six yards as the Tigers won at Allegheny, 38-14.

Lineman Brad Boswell had four tackles, linebacker Sam Bolin three tackles and defensive back Tyler Watson two as Taylor shut out Madonna, 63-0.

Rose-Hulman senior Alonzo Johnson carried five times for 17 yards in the team’s 57-14 victory at Manchester.

IUPUI women’s soccer player Paige Waskom attempted two shots and picked up an assist in the Jaguars’ 1-0 win over Youngstown State.

Franklin

Franklin College junior Alivia Brown had four kills and four digs in the volleyball team’s three-set home loss to Earlham. Brown provided two kills and a dig in the Grizzlies’ loss at Hanover.

IUPUI setter Brooke Phillips finished with 15 assists and two digs in a loss to Milwaukee and followed with 30 assists and seven assists in a loss at Green Bay.

Ball State linebacker Clayton Coll led the team in tackles with 11 in a 24-17 loss to Miami of Ohio.

The Taylor men’s golf squad won the Huntington Invite. Junior Javan Johnson carded a 144 total over two rounds. Huntington freshman Quin Edwards tied for 14th individually with scores of 75, 72 and 79.

Greenwood

Manchester volleyball player Joy Maze had three kills, two digs and a service ace in the Spartans’ loss at Transylvania and nine kills and six digs in a four-set loss at Asbury. In a loss at Anderson, Maze provided seven kills, four digs and an ace.

Whiteland

Taylor volleyball player Sarah Scott had two kills and a dig as the Trojans opened the Crossroads League tournament by defeating Mt. Vernon Nazarene.
