ELNORA
Mary Anne McCarter Smith of Bartlett, TN was called home to the Lord on September 21, 2021 at age 83. She was born on November 10, 1937 to her parents Clinton McCarter and Lillian Osbourne McCarter.
She was married to Icel Emery Smith on August 11, 1956 for 33 wonderful years.
Growing up in Elnora, Indiana she was a 1955 graduate of Elnora High School, then went on to Indiana Business College. She held various positions throughout her career, retiring as an Executive Administrator at Ernst &Young. She moved to Indianapolis, Indiana following her marriage. She also lived in Greenwood, Indiana for many years. She eventually moved to Bartlett, TN to be closer to family.
Mary Anne was a member of Honey Creek United Methodist and Bartlett United Methodist. She was actively involved in her churches ladies clubs, choirs, and travel clubs. She loved traveling and spent many summers on cruises. Spending time with her family and friends was near and dear to her heart.
She was an avid reader and dog lover.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Lillian; her husband, Icel; along with her brother and sister in law, James and Jane McCarter.
She is survived by two children, Keith Smith (Laura); Melanie Benge (Michael); five grandchildren, Sean Smith (Betsy), Kreigh Smith (Abby), Samuel Benge, Ian Benge (Holly), Sarah Benge (Samuel Douglas); and two great grandchildren, Cooper and Mary Grace Smith.
Mary Anne was an exceptional woman who brought joy to everyone she encountered. Her family was her heart and she loved deeply. She will be dearly missed by all.
