State health officials have opened Pfizer booster shots to Hoosiers age 16 and 17. Teens must have received their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago to be eligible for a booster.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved the administration of a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine for individuals 16 and older on Thursday, following the  Food and Drug Administration’s decision to expand its Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to include individuals ages 16 and 17.

Hoosiers 18 and older may get any of the three COVID-19 vaccines as a booster dose six months following their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or after the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Hoosiers aged 16 and 17 are only eligible for a Pfizer booster shot.

For more information on local sites offering the Pfizer vaccine visit ourshot.in.gov and look for a location that carries the Pfizer vaccine, which is designated as PVAX on the location map. Hoosiers may also call Indiana 211 (866-211-9966) for assistance finding a location.

Appointments are recommended, but many sites also accept walk-ins.

More than 8 million COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Indiana, including more than 1 million booster doses. Nearly 3.5 million Hoosiers are fully vaccinated, according to data from the Indiana Department of Health.
