College notebook: Utterback’s near double-double propels Vermont

Vermont junior guard Emma Utterback scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the women’s basketball team defeated Loyola Chicago, 72-62. The former Center Grove player also finished with six points in a one-point triumph over LIU.

Center Grove

University of Denver freshman Mary Wilson finished with five points and three rebounds in the team’s 89-62 win over Colorado Christian.

Senior Cassidy Hardin scored five points with a rebound and steal as Purdue lost a 70-53 decision to Ohio State. She poured in 15 points in the Boilermakers’ 86-71 loss at Maryland.

Junior guard Ella Thompson had 12 points and five assists for Bentley as it scored a 78-65 victory over Franklin Pierce. She had 17 points, four steals and three assists in Bentley’s 65-53 loss to Southern New Hampshire.

Indiana junior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis had 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks to lead the Hoosiers to a 68-55 win over Nebraska. He had nine points and six rebounds in IU’s 64-59 loss at Wisconsin.

Indiana Wesleyan’s 100-89 victory at St. Francis included a 13-point, three-rebound, three-assist performance from junior guard Spencer Piercefield. He had two points and four assists in the Wildcats’ 78-49 loss at Rochester (Michigan).

University of Indianapolis offensive lineman Clay Hadley was named to the D2CCA all-Super Region 3 second team, adding to a list of honors that includes a program-record 49 consecutive starts.

Taylor football players Justin Tolle and Tyler Watson were named to the NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Tolle, an offensive lineman, has a 3.60 grade-point average in management, while Watson, a defensive back, carries a 3.87 GPA as a human physiology and preventive medicine major.

Louisiana kicker Nate Snyder made a field goal, three point-afters and averaged 57.4 yards on his five kickoffs to help his team down Appalachian State, 24-16, in the Sun Belt Conference championship game.

Sophomore swimmer John Hasquin took first in the 50 freestyle in 22.41 seconds as the Franklin College men defeated Anderson.

Bethel senior guard Jared DeHart finished with 10 points, two rebounds and two steals in the Pilots’ 88-67 loss to Grace College.

Whiteland

Point guard Libby Baker finished with seven points and three boards to help Franklin College women’s basketball score a 74-62 win over Defiance.

Senior guard Sidney Crowe had three points, an assist and one steal for St. Francis in its 81-70 home loss to Indiana Wesleyan.

Franklin College junior Carter Crowe grabbed two rebounds in a 62-59 loss to Defiance and had five points, eight rebounds and two assists in the Grizzlies’ 64-55 victory at Spalding.

Rose-Hulman defensive back Tyce Miller was named first team all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference after finishing the season with 15 tackles and six interceptions.

Franklin College women’s basketball defeated Defiance, 74-62, with junior forward Bayleigh Torrance contributing six points and two assists.

Junior diver Gauge Creech produced victories in the 1-meter competition in dual meets for Franklin College against Manchester and Anderson. He totaled 279.70 points against the Spartans and won both sessions against AU with scores of 186.15 and 273.90.

Missouri freshman swimmer Cade Oliver finished second in the 200-yard backstroke and fourth in the 100 breaststroke during a dual-meet win over Missouri State.

UIndy forward Owen Atkison scored a goal in a 3-0 victory over Illinois-Springfield in the third round of the NCAA men’s soccer regional.

Greenwood

Freshman Alayna Kenworthy won the 200 individual medley for Franklin College women’s swimming as the Grizzlies cruised past host Manchester. Junior Faith Jackson claimed first in 1-meter diving against both Manchester and Anderson with scores of 226.15, 170.85 and 245.00.
