Thomas D. Mitchell Sr.

Thomas D. Mitchell Sr., 88, of Franklin, IN passed away Saturday January 8, 2022 at Otterbein Franklin Seniorlife Community. He was born September 16, 1933 in Trafalgar, IN to Thomas B. Mitchell and Bertha (Calvert) Mitchell. He married Margaret Ann (Harrer) Mitchell on January 20, 1968 in Louisville, Kentucky, she survives.

He was a 1951 graduate of Trafalgar High School and a 1955 graduate of Franklin College. He also had attended short courses at Purdue, IU and IUPUI. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. Mitchell had been a statistician and engineer for Raytheon Technologies, formerly Naval Avionics, in Indianapolis for 40 years retiring in 1999. After retirement he worked at a daycare in Trafalgar and at Singleton Mortuary.

He was a member and elder emeritus of Trafalgar Christian Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attended the Calvert and Mitchell family get togethers.

Survivors include his wife Margaret Ann (Harrer) Mitchell of Franklin, IN, a daughter Linda Ann (Mitchell) Kelly of Brown County, IN, a son Thomas D. Mitchell Jr. (Janet) of Carmel, IN, grandchildren James Michael Cody Mitchell (Natalie), Kelsey Renae (Hauk) Bryant (Kyle) and Tyler H. Logan Buck, three great-grandchildren, a brother Keith Calvert Mitchell (Joanne) of Columbus, IN, a brother-in-law Merrill Smith of Franklin, IN, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ruth Kathleen (Mitchell) Smith and a brother-in-law William F. Harrer.

Pastor Kyrmen Rea will conduct a service on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 1PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be life-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com thomas-mitchell. Friends may call Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 11AM until service time at the mortuary. It is mandated those attending wear facial coverings. Entombment will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN at a later date.
