College notebook: Piercefield leads IWU men to victory

Indiana Wesleyan guard Spencer Piercefield poured in 29 points, leading the Wildcats to an 88-85 triumph at Mt. Vernon Nazarene. The junior, a Center Grove graduate, also had 12 points, six rebounds and five assists as IWU handed Taylor a 73-61 loss.

Center Grove

Indiana junior Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked five shots in the team’s 83-74 loss at Iowa. The Hoosiers won at Nebraska, 78-71, with Jackson-Davis contributing 23 points and 12 boards.

Purdue guard Cassidy Hardin tallied five points and secured three boards in the Boilermakers’ 73-68 overtime loss to visiting Indiana.

Vermont guard Emma Utterback had 18 points, four rebounds and four assists to help lead her team to a 69-38 win over UMBC. She had 13 points and two assists in a 71-49 triumph against NJIT.

Freshman pole vaulter Taylor Jarosinski placed seventh for the IU women’s track and field team at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a best of 3.67 meters (12 feet, ½ inch).

Whiteland

Lipscomb freshman Bella Jackson finished fourth in the high jump at the Commodore Challenge indoor meet at Vanderbilt, clearing 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8¾ inches). It’s the second time this season that Jackson has set a new personal and school record.

Franklin College forward Carter Crowe had three points, five rebounds and a blocked shot in the team’s 70-65 home loss to Bluffton. He contributed five points and four rebounds to the Grizzlies’ 76-72 victory at Mount St. Joseph.

Point guard Libby Baker finished with four points, four assists and two rebounds in Franklin College’s 69-68 loss to Bluffton. She had six assists, two rebounds and a steal in a 70-69 home loss to Mount St. Joseph.

St. Francis senior guard Sidney Crowe scored eight points and made two steals in the team’s 90-65 win over Bethel.

Greenwood Christian

Wabash College freshman Styles McCorkle grabbed four rebounds in the team’s 92-64 victory at Kenyon. Sophomore Champ McCorkle had two boards and an assist for the Little Giants.

Franklin

Drew McGaha and Drew Hargis helped Franklin College place second in the 4×400 relay in 3 minutes, 39.90 seconds as the Grizzlies opened their indoor track and field season competing at the Robert H. Johnson Invite at Wabash College.

Marian University senior Sam Barnett clocked a time of 8.87 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to place 11th at the Sean Brady Alumni Invitational at Trine University. Trine junior Lia Vawter tied her school’s high jump standard of 1.55 meters (5-1).

Franklin College junior forward Bayleigh Torrance had six points in the Grizzlies’ 69-68 loss at home to Bluffton. She had two rebounds in a 70-69 home loss to Mount St. Joseph.

Freshman guard Kyra Baker collected six rebounds for Huntington in its 76-43 loss to Grace College.

Greenwood

Franklin College junior Nick Patton was second in the 60-meter hurdles at the Robert H. Johnson Invite at Wabash College, posting a time of 8.95 seconds.

Wabash College senior Ethan Pine won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:00.33 as the Little Giants hosted their own indoor invitational.

Junior wrestler Nick Willham lost his match at 197 pounds, 2-0, as Indiana dropped a 17-15 decision to visiting Michigan State.

Indian Creek

Bethel senior guard Jared DeHart tallied 10 points with two rebounds and two assists as the Pilots downed Goshen College, 92-83, in overtime. He scored 27 points off the bench in 27 minutes of court time in a 90-75 loss at St. Francis.
