As many as 33 new jobs could be on Greenwood’s horizon if the city council approves a more than $200,000 tax break for a medical supply company.
Sarnova HC, LLC, an Ohio-based medical supply corporation, came before the Greenwood City Council this week to announce their intent to develop a new Indiana medical logistics and distribution center and to request a three-year, $208,000, tax abatement. The company plans to invest about $8.5 million in material handling equipment, racks and forklifts specifically for the distribution of medical supplies and equipment, according to city documents.
Sarnova is planning to lease an under-construction, 200,000-square-foot facility at 1033 Collins Road, on the city’s southeast side. The site is located in the city’s Worthsville Road Economic Development Area, city documents show.
Operations are expected to begin later this year, according to city documents.
Three Sarnova subsidiaries would be at the Greenwood facility — Bound Tree Medical, LLC, Emergency Medical Products, Inc. and Tri-anim Health Services, Inc. The companies provide equipment and services to first responders and EMS companies, said Brian Ellis, Sarnova’s CEO.
Sarnova’s interest in coming to the city results from the company’s two-year endeavor to see how it could optimize its supply chain operations. The company looked at six potential sites in four states before it chose Greenwood, Ellis said.
“We are interested in Greenwood, Indiana to be the solution to the Midwest (operations),” he said.
With its move to Greenwood, the company will close two other facilities outside the state, Ellis said.
Pay for the new employees will range from $16 to 23 an hour, depending on the position, he said.
The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission unanimously approved the tax abatement Jan. 11, said David Hopper, city council and redevelopment commission member.
Next, the abatement moves to the city council for review. A final vote is likely to take place Feb. 23.
