When will we wake up?

To the Editor:

What’s it going to take for us to wake up?

When are we going to learn that “good intentions” are getting people killed?

Every night we see heartbroken mothers and grandmothers on the local news crying over the senseless death of a loved one. Every night we see pleas to stop the violence, find the evil people who kill so wantonly and make our streets safe again.

Then we see this, a newly elected Manhattan district attorney openly refusing to punish those responsible. A district attorney elected by the same people whose lives are now being destroyed by those he refuses to punish. It makes no sense. And it isn’t just in Manhattan. Every major Democrat-led city in America has someone undermining the justice system and putting the guilty before the innocent just like Manhattan is — and every one of those cities is paying for it.

What we are permitting is a major shift in political advocacy, and innocent people are going to die as a result. Every single day you see a Democrat demanding more and more gun control from those least responsible while refusing to prosecute those clearly violating laws already on the books. Elected officials have openly decided to prioritize the rights of the guilty over those of the innocent. They have also openly stated they know losses will occur and consider them “acceptable” as they engage in their well-intentioned social experiment. And apparently we don’t care, we elect them knowing all this.

What they don’t see or choose to ignore is that their message is just as clear to the offenders as it is to the offended: It’s open season on a wide variety of offenses because we have no intention of holding anyone accountable.

This message has been so loud and so clear as to be instantaneously responded to. Almost immediately mass smash and grabs started, carjacking accelerated and armed robbery exploded. But that’s OK. Some innocent lives were bound to be shattered as we transition to this “more equitable and compassionate form of justice.”

It’s difficult to blame the Manhattan DA for the damage he’s doing. Unlike most, he was honest about what he wanted to do all throughout his campaign. He openly proclaimed exactly whose side he was on and what he would do once elected. Manhattan elected him anyway. …Which brings me back to my original question: What’s it going to take for us to wake up?
