FRANKLIN

Barbara Lou (Vaught) Paris, 89 of Franklin, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 22, 2022, at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community.

Barbara was born to Loren Judson Vaught and Bernice Rose (Bridges) Vaught on

July 17, 1932. She was a 1950 graduate of Franklin Community High School. It was here that she met the love of her life, William E. (Bill) Paris. They married on July 15, 1951. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1997.

Together, they raised five children. Barb was a dedicated homemaker. She filled her days cooking homemade meals, baking nightly desserts, cleaning, and caring for her children. Barb instilled the values of family first, hard work, and independence in her children.

Barb filled her spare time serving her community. She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school, planned and cooked meals for events, and oversaw all youth programs for several years as Sunday School Director. Barb is a 72-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Franklin Chapter #439. She was Worthy Matron in 1987. She was a 63-year member, and past president of Kappa Kappa Sigma Upsilon Chapter. She loved traveling with her friends.

Barb is survived by her five children; Dan Paris (Peggy) of Franklin, IN, Fred Paris (Michele) of Franklin, IN, Richard Paris (Ellen) of Franklin, IN, Connie Carson (Buddy) of Franklin, IN, and Jenni Baker (Mike) of Franklin, IN; twelve grandchildren; Jeff Paris (Sabrina), Ryan Paris, Lori Paris, Brandon Paris (Christina), Justin Paris (Jamie), Lindsey Owens (Jay), Shannon Hicks (Shawn), Jordan Paris (Miranda), Zachary Carson (Ashley), Kendall Sipp-Paris (Ellen), Kelsey Baker and Matthew Baker; and thirteen Great-Grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Joe Vaught (Sue) of Franklin, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, and three siblings: Robert Vaught, Emma (Sug) Vaught, and Richard Vaught.

A special thank you is extended to the staff of Otterbein. Their loving care was truly a blessing to our family.

David Johnson will conduct a celebration of life service on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, Indiana and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com barbara-paris. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community, in Memory of Barbara L. Paris, 1070 West Jefferson Street, Franklin, IN 46131. Donations will be used to honor Barb’s care in a way to celebrate and recognize Otterbein staff.
