Warriors win tourney title

Whiteland cruised to a championship at the Anderson Indian Invitational on Saturday, beating Columbus East by a 9-5 score and then hammering Fort Wayne Concordia in the final, 16-1. Maalik Perkins and Donovan Woodall each drove in three runs in the title game for the Warriors (3-0), while Perkins, Drew Helton and Brayden Roy totaled four hits apiece.

Cougars post shutout win

Greenwood Christian rolled to a 10-0 win over Seton Catholic on Saturday. Colton Flint and Charlie Overton each drove in two runs for the Cougars (1-1, 1-0 PAAC), while pitcher Eli Ellis struck out seven in three innings of work.

Grizzly Cubs drop a pair

Franklin lost both of its Saturday games at Bedford North Lawrence, dropping a 10-4 decision to the Stars and suffering a 12-11 setback against Evansville North. Nolan Netter had a home run and four RBIs on the day for the Grizzly Cubs (0-2), while Jace Fowler and Max Clark each totaled four hits.

Woodmen second at Timbergate

Jackson Watkins shot 71 and won a playoff for individual medalist honors, leading Greenwood to a second-place team finish in the Edinburgh Invitational at Timbergate on Saturday. The Woodmen, who also got rounds of 78 from Conner Chase and Eli Poe, finished at 310, six shots back of Columbus North. Greenwood Christian (319) was third, led by a 76 from Ian Reed and a 77 from Coen Bauschek. The host Lancers placed ninth in the team standings at 367, led by Max Blandford’s 76.

Franklin College

Baseball dominates Bluffton

Logan Demkovich hit four home runs, including three in one game, and drove in eight runs to help Franklin College overpower Bluffton by scores of 16-4 and 13-3 in its conference openers on Saturday. A.J. Sanders contributed five RBIs for the Grizzlies (17-5, 2-0 HCAC).

Women’s track and field ties for first

The Franklin College women earned their first meet win since 2016, tying Hanover for first place at the Grizzly Invitational on Saturday. The host squad got individual first-place efforts from Taylor Tatlock (javelin), Lex Desenberg (400) and Haley Makowski (mile).

Meanwhile, the men finished second as a team and got event wins from Zak Wiley (discus and hammer throw), Tristan Konkler (high jump), Tivon Wiley (pole vault), Jaycee Wilburn (mile), Nick Patton (110 hurdles) and the 4×400 relay.

Men’s golf fifth at tournament

Alan Showalter shot 77-77—154 to tie for 13th individually and lead Franklin College to a fifth-place team finish in the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational, which concluded Sunday at Champions Pointe. Matt Krause totaled 159 for the Grizzlies, with Zach Ricketts and Zayne Spangler both one stroke behind him at 160.

Softball splits twinbill

Annie Kluemper drove in four runs to help Franklin College pull out a 9-7 victory over Transylvania, salvaging a doubleheader split Sunday in its first HCAC series of the spring. The Grizzlies (8-8, 1-1) lost the nightcap, 4-0.
