College notebook: Bass continues torrid hitting pace

Taylor baseball player T.J. Bass belted a three-run homer as the Trojans hammered Goshen College, 12-1. The Greenwood graduate continued his torrid pace at the plate by homering, singling and driving in five runs as Taylor defeated the Maple Leafs, 13-1, before again homering and singling in a 10-3 romp.

Bass went 4 of 6 in a 13-7 victory at St. Francis, including another round-tripper; he is hitting .386 on the season with 11 home runs and 57 RBI.

Greenwood

University of Indianapolis junior Emily Bonser finished second in the women’s shot put at the Knight Invitational at Marian. Wabash College senior Ethan Pine took second in the men’s 1,500-meter run (4:03.44).

Nick Patton won the 110-meter high hurdles (16.49 seconds) for host Franklin College at the Grizzly Invitational. In the girls 100-meter hurdles, Janae Johnson took second in 16.94 seconds and was third in the long jump with a best of 15 feet.

Mount St. Joseph freshman Kiley Hankenhoff had a three-run home run in an 8-0 win in softball over Anderson.

UIndy junior Lexy Rees singled and homered as the Greyhounds softball team shut out William Jewell, 1-0. She singled, doubled and hit a home run in the second game of the twinbill, a 13-5 UIndy win. Teammate Dominique Proctor doubled and homered in the 13-5 decision, and followed with a single and double in a 9-0 triumph over Truman State.

Center Grove

Jackson Young notched the win for Franklin College baseball, allowing eight hits in six innings during a 13-3 downing of Bluffton. Chris Foote provided an inning of pitching relief, giving up a hit.

Indiana Wesleyan pitcher Drue Young picked up the victory, going the first 6 1/3 innings with three strikeouts, as the Wildcats baseball squad won at St. Francis, 13-6.

Alabama sophomore Bryce Eblin singled twice and scored three runs in the Crimson Tide’s 10-9 win over Texas A&M. Eblin delivered four hits, including a double, and stole a base in an 8-4 defeat of the Aggies. The second baseman produced three singles and scored a pair of runs in a 10-1 win against Samford.

Senior catcher Jordyn Rudd had home runs in 4-3 and 6-4 wins over Michigan.

Mount St. Joseph sophomore softball third baseman Kaci Finchum singled, doubled and scored a run in an 8-0 shutout of visiting Anderson. She singled, stole a base and scored a run in a 9-1 win that same day.

Sophomore first baseman Lexi Fair doubled and scored a run for Southern Indiana in its 7-1 victory over William Jewell College.

Duke junior golfer Erica Shepherd is now 11-4-1 in career match play competition after the Blue Devils competed at the Wolfpack Invitational in Raleigh, North Carolina. Shepherd finished the tourney with a 3 and 1 victory over Chloe Schiavone of Notre Dame.

Southern Indiana sophomore Peyton Short played a role in the men’s golf team placing sixth of 13 schools at the Music City Invitational with a 75-76—151.

Franklin

Junior designated hitter Luke Miles provided an RBI double and a single as Purdue Fort Wayne baseball scored a 6-3 victory at Michigan.

Taylor men’s golfer Javan Johnson tied for seventh individually with a score of 80-71—151 as the Trojans won the 10-team Purgatory Intercollegiate.

University of Indianapolis runner Andrew Bixler set a new personal record time in the 1,500-meter run in an indoor track and field invitational at Cincinnati.

Eli Cochrane and Drew McGaha comprised half of Franklin College’s first-place 4×400 relay team (3:34.58) at the Grizzly Invitational.

Whiteland

The Franklin College men’s golf team placed fifth out of seven at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational. Zach Ricketts tied for 24th individually with a score of 80-80—160.

Franklin College pitcher Tyler Wick worked the final inning in a 13-3 victory over Bluffton.

Morehead State pitcher Luke Helton worked the first 5 2/3 innings, giving up a hit and striking out five, as the Eagles defeated Tennessee Tech, 5-2.

Outfielder Addison Csikos singled and scored two runs for Franklin College softball in a 9-7 victory over Transylvania. Delanie Gourley pitched four innings of relief to pick up the win after giving up four hits and a run.

Mount St. Joseph freshman shortstop Macy Cornelius singled twice in the squad’s 9-1 defeat of visiting Anderson.

Indiana Wesleyan senior Danielle Munn pitched the final 1 1/3 innings in the team’s 6-4 softball triumph over Mount Vernon Nazarene, allowing two hits and striking out two.

UIndy senior Michaela Adams established a new personal mark in the discus at the Knight Invitational at Marian.

Indian Creek

Marian pitcher Dylan Sprong threw two frames of middle relief, allowing four hits and striking out two, in a 10-6 loss to Huntington.
