Letter to Editor: Reader, crime victim supports Hamner for prosecutor

To the Editor

Who would have thought after going through a death penalty case to prosecute the killer of my daughter Kelly Eckart, in May 2000, that I would now be sharing how fortunate I was to have Lance Hamner as our prosecutor for that case?

Lance wasn’t just prosecuting a case; he was guiding us, standing with us, fighting for justice for Kelly. Because of his expertise in prosecuting this case and his devotion to our family to help us through the entire process, I was able to have confidence and trust in the judicial system with his leadership.

You wouldn’t believe how many times I think about standing in his office right before trial started up and Lance would say a prayer for all to go well for that part of the trial. I was and am still so very thankful for him leading me through it. I never felt like just a victim with Lance.

He was and will forever be so special to me. It wasn’t just another court case for him. Lance cares about the people and he cared about true justice for my Kelly.

I recently said to Lance, “Thank you for being you. Thank you for being who you are and caring enough about the people of Johnson County to run for Prosecutor. They need you.”
