Traffic enforcement blitz continues for month of June

The Johnson County Law Enforcement Coalition will continue their increased traffic enforcement to help deter impaired and dangerous travel behaviors. The blitz started in May and will continue during the month of June.

The coalition is participating in a statewide safety enforcement campaign. The campaign is using federal funding to put additional officers on the roads to enforce Indiana’s impaired driving and seat belt laws, along with enforcing stoplights and stop signs, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The goal of this “high-visibility” enforcement is to deter impaired and dangerous driving behaviors that compromise safety on Indiana’s roadways during this heavily-traveled season. Officers will deploy special patrols designed to detect impaired drivers and will also be on the lookout for motorists and passengers, including children, who are not buckled up, local enforcement officials say.

Anyone who is caught driving under the influence with an illegal blood alcohol concentration, or BAC, of 0.08 or higher will be arrested. Anyone caught driving without all people in the car buckled up or anyone who disregards traffic lights or stop signs will be cited by police.
