Franklin man sentenced to two years for gun, meth charges

A Franklin man has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to illegally possessing a firearm and methamphetamine.

Larry A. Lee, 56, was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to the unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and possession of methamphetamine, both to be served concurrently, in Shelby County Superior Court 1 last Thursday. He was originally charged in December with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a Level 4 felony; one count of possession of meth, a Level 6 felony; and resisting law enforcement and possession of paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

As part of his plea agreement, the misdemeanor charges were dismissed. He will serve these charges after the conclusion of a Johnson County drug case where he is named as a defendant, according to online court records.

Lee was arrested in December along with three other people — Joseph Gamill, Angela Hayes and Paul Rose — following a police raid at a home near the Johnson-Shelby County line. Officers with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Shelbyville Police Department and Shelbyville Police SWAT Team were serving a search warrant at a home in the 8900 block of West State Road 44 when the four were arrested. The home had a Franklin address, according to a Shelbyville Police Department news release from around the time of the arrest.

The search warrant, was part of an investigation by the Shelby County Narcotics Task Force. It was the second search warrant for illegal narcotics and firearms executed at the home within a 90 day period, according to the news release.

Police found meth, heroin and fentanyl, along with six firearms at the home, the news release says.

Gamill, Hayes and Rose were all charged by Shelby County prosecutors in seperate cases in December. Hearings for all three are scheduled in July and August, online court records show.
