Families in need of school supplies will be able to pick up backpacks full of them July 31 at TCC stores in Franklin and Greenwood.
The giveaway will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. while supplies last, and students who pick up a backpack can enter a sweepstakes for one of five $10,000 college scholarships nationwide, according to a news release from TCC, Round Room and Wireless Zone.
Across the country, more than 1,200 Verizon-affiliated stores will be giving away about 140,000 backpacks. Those stores include two in Greenwood, one in Franklin and one just north of County Line Road in Indianapolis. Over the decade the annual backpack giveaway has occurred, more than $1.2 million backpacks have been given away, according to the release.
Supplies include pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, a ruler and glue. Each child will receive one backpack as supplies last, the release says.
In Franklin, families can go to the TCC store at 2199 N. Morton St. Greenwood families can visit stores at 81 N. State Road 135, 120 W. Smith Valley Road, or go across County Line Road to 8860 S. Emerson Ave in Indianapolis.
