Race for Johnson County school board seats is on

People hoping to join a school board in Johnson Countycan now file for election.

The window for eligible residents interested in serving on their local school board opened Wednesday and the filing deadline is noon Aug. 26.

As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, one newcomer and two current school board members hoping to retain their seats filed to run. Newcomer Amber Treasurer filed to run for the Clark-Pleasant school board’s Pleasant Township seat, while Jack Russell and Scott Alexander filed to retain their at-large seats on Center Grove’s school board, according to information provided by Johnson County Clerk’s Office.

For Center Grove’s school board, Joe Hubbard is the only current member on the ballot who hasn’t yet filed for re-election.

Clark-Pleasant’s school board will have one seat on the ballot in Pleasant Township and two in Clark Township. In the Clark-Pleasant district, Craig Koch, Kent Beeson and Kimberly Crawford’s terms are up for re-election.

Franklin’s school board has two seats on the ballot, one representing Union Township and the other Needham Township. The seats are currently held by Becky Nelson and Ryan Waggoner.

Greenwood’s school board will have two at-large seats and a District 2 seat on the ballot. That means Brian Ford, Mike Metzger and Jack Napier’s terms are set to expire.

Edinburgh’s school board has three at-large seats on the ballot, which are currently held by Daniel Teter, David Bauman and Alice Taulman.

Indian Creek school board seats for Hensley Township and Jackson Township representatives will be on the ballot. The seats are currently held by Judy Misiniec and Ben Swopes.

To run for school board, candidates must live in a township that is on the ballot, or if running for an at-large seat, live within the boundaries of the school district. Candidates must also collect at least 10 signatures supporting their campaign, the forms for which can be picked up and dropped off at the Johnson County Clerk’s Office in the courthouse basement.
