Cross country

Trojan boys win in Terre Haute

Center Grove’s boys team began its season by topping a 37-team field at the Valley Cross Kickoff meet in Terre Haute on Saturday. Parker Mimbela paced the Trojans by finishing sixth individually with a time of 16:10.8, while Kyle Montgomery (16:24.8) was 12th.

In the girls meet, Center Grove finished seventh out of 32 teams, while Franklin was ninth.

Boys soccer

Detty, Center Grove top Royals

Ely Detty collected four goals and assisted on another as Center Grove rolled to a 5-1 season-opening victory over Roncalli on Saturday afternoon. Preston Fisher added a goal and an assist for the Trojans, while Landen Montfort had two assists.

Trojans pull out victory

Addie Crowe’s header goal off of a Taylor Wert assist in the final minute of regulation allowed Center Grove to escape with a 1-0 triumph at East Central on Saturday. Sophia Gorall made three saves to preserve the shutout win for the Trojans.

Girls golf

Trojans third, Grizzly Cubs fourth

Center Grove and Franklin finished third and fourth, respectively, against a loaded field Saturday in the Franklin Invitational at The Legends. The No. 8 Trojans (306) were led by Sage Parsetich and Abby Rich, who tied for fourth individually with rounds of 73, while Camille Short carded a 79. For the No. 9 Grizzly Cubs (317), Lexi Ray had a 71 to tie for second among individuals, while Addie Livorno posted a career-best 77.

Also on Saturday, Center Grove’s White team placed fifth at the Zionsville Invitational, led by Maren Pfeifle’s 79.

Woodmen place ninth

Greenwood finished ninth out of 17 teams at the Ben Davis Invitational. Gracie Gasaway led the Woodmen with a round of 88, followed closely by Emma Baker at 89.

Boys tennis

Trojans sweep Grizzly Cubs

Center Grove defeated Franklin on Saturday, 5-0, in the opening match for both teams. Tyler Lane and Phu Pham won in the first two singles spots without dropping a game for the Trojans.

Woodmen edge Olympians

Ian Ratliff’s three-set win at third singles lifted Greenwood to a 3-2 triumph over Columbus East. Noah Paswater won at first singles for the Woodmen, while the No. 1 doubles team of Aidyn Green and Blake Reynolds was also victorious.

Warriors fall to Orioles

Whiteland opened its season with a 3-2 loss to Avon. Spencer Gillespie and Ty McCullars earned the two points for the Warriors with victories in the top two singles positions.

Volleyball

Center Grove splits first four

Center Grove played four matches in the Pioneer Kickoff Classic at Providence, losing to Castle in three sets and Silver Creek in two before rebounding with victories over Tri-West (23-25, 25-17, 15-8) and Evansville Mater Dei (25-15, 25-19).

Lancers finish in second

Edinburgh swept host Morristown and Jac-Cen-Del to reach the championship match of its season-opening tournament before falling to Northeastern 25-19, 25-21 in the final.
