Here’s the latest on I-69 construction in Johnson County

Work on the Interstate 69 project in Johnson County is about halfway done.

In September, State Road 37 traffic will shift onto new pavement between State Road 144 and Fairview Road. The first step of this process will occur Wednesday, when northbound traffic is restricted to one lane north of Banta Road, causing delays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The move will be the first of four traffic shifts, and construction crews will be relocating temporary barriers and adjusting pavement markers to shift traffic to the other side of the road, according to a weekly update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Construction crews continue to work on the State Road 144 interchange. The southbound State Road 37 exit ramp to State Road 144 and the State Road 144 on-ramp to northbound State Road 37 are expected to open after Labor Day, while northbound State Road 37 access to State Road 144 and State Road 144 access to southbound State Road 37 will be closed for about three months for entrance and exit ramp construction, INDOT officials say. The detour follows State Road 37 to the County Line Road interchange.

In Marion County, gas line installation will close eastbound Banta Road east of State Road 37 starting Wednesday and continuing until later this week. During the closure, Edgewood Avenue will reopen to northbound State Road 37 traffic for right turns as an alternate route, while westbound Banta Road will remain open, INDOT officials say.

Morgan County drivers can take local roads to Morgan Street and Egbert Road extensions west of State Road 37 via overpasses at Myra Lane and Teeters Road. A new Artesian Avenue traffic signal at the intersection of Southview Drive and Commercial Boulevard will be activated later this week, INDOT officials say.
