FRANKLIN
Brenda Gail (Smith) Jones-Matthews, 73 of Franklin, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.
She was born on October 27, 1948 in Franklin, Indiana to Arthur and Lorene (Ratliff) Smith. Brenda married Jack Matthews on August 14, 1984. He lovingly survives. She is also survived by children, Travis Hayes; Amy (Phil) Fisher; Jason (Lisa) Jones and Billy (Terri) Jones. Also surviving are grandchildren, Carrie Barnhizer, Savannah Jones, Katie (Tyler) Stockrahm, Audrey (Payton) Utterback, Nathaniel Jones, Lance Jones; great-grandson, Jackson Stockrahm and sister, Beth (Vicki) Smith and deceased sister, Kelly’s wife, April. She was preceded in passing by her parents and sister, Kelly Smith.
Brenda was a 1966 graduate of Franklin High School.
Brenda began her career as Secretary to then City of Franklin Mayor. She later served as City Planner for the City of Franklin. She was elected as Johnson County Clerk and served two terms and later was elected the Johnson County Auditor. After leaving County government, she was the Mayor of Franklin.
She was a member of Victory Church in Franklin. She was a former member of the Franklin Order of Eastern Star. Brenda was a member of the Franklin American Legion Auxiliary and was a longtime active member of the Johnson County Republican Party. Brenda enjoyed mushroom hunting, going to the beach and loved being outside tending to her yard. She loved spending time with her family.
There will be no services at this time. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is assisting the family with arrangements.
