UPDATE: Franklin man killed in dump truck accident on Mauxferry Road

A Franklin man died after a single-vehicle accident south of Franklin Wednesday afternoon.

First responders were called to the 3100 block of S. Mauxferry Road around 2:44 p.m. on a report of a vehicle fire. The call was later updated to say it was also an accident with entrapment, according to radio traffic.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found a dump truck fully engulfed in flames. One person was trapped inside the truck, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as David Timmons, 55. He received severe burns and was already deceased when law enforcement arrived at the scene, the report says.

No one witnessed the crash at the actual time of the crash. Police believe the driver attempted to get the passenger side tire off the road and over-corrected into the ditch on the other side, according to the report.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found a dump truck fully engulfed in flames. One person is confirmed dead at this time, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The person’s identity has not been released. The Johnson County Coroner’s Office has been notified, the news release says.

The sheriff’s office, Amity Fire Department and Nineveh Fire Department are currently investigating the single-vehicle accident. Mauxferry Road is currently closed between County Road 300 South and Buckhart Creek Road as investigators collect evidence and investigate the scene, the news release says.
