Johnson County now experiencing ‘abnormally dry’ drought conditions

Johnson County is now is experiencing “abnormally dry” drought conditions, according to federal officials.

In the U.S. Drought Monitor’s Weekly Update on Thursday, Johnson County was moved from the “no drought” category to the “D0 – Abnormally Dry” Category. Under this category, dryland crops and rangeland are stressed, lawns are brown and gardens are watered more frequently, according to Drought.gov.

The Drought Monitor is a five-category system, with D0 – Abnormally Dry being the lowest category, and D5 – Exceptional Drought being the highest category.

Most of Indiana is currently under the Abnormally Dry category, with portions of southern, northern and eastern Indiana being under the “D1 – Moderate Drought” category, federal officials say.
