College notebook: Roberts makes second pick-six in as many weeks

Rose-Hulman senior linebacker Riley Roberts finished with six tackles, a sack and an interception return of 11 yards for a touchdown in a 49-0 victory over visiting Franklin College. It marks second straight week Roberts, a former Center Grove player, has scored on a pick-six.

Center Grove

Freshman Daniel Weems rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown, and made four catches for 24 yards and another score as Indiana Wesleyan blanked visiting St. Francis, 44-0.

Indiana redshirt freshman linebacker Matt Hohlt finished with four tackles as the Hoosiers lost at Rutgers, 24-17.

Junior lineman Lucas Hunter had six tackles, including 1.5 for loss, for Indiana State in its 27-21 loss to visiting Illinois State.

Ball State sophomore Carson Steele rushed for 101 yards and made four catches for 57 and a touchdown, but Eastern Michigan spoiled the Cardinals’ homecoming with a 20-16 defeat.

Senior Noah Gillard scored rounds of 78, 81 and 84 to finish 53rd overall as Indiana men’s golf competed at the The Williams Cup in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Wisconsin volleyball swept visiting Michigan State with junior setter Madison Hammill providing 11 assists and six digs for the Badgers. She followed with 18 assists and five digs as Wisconsin won in four sets at Michigan.

Junior middle hitter Jamie Brown had three and one kills, respectively, as Indiana State volleyball lost home matches against Northern Iowa and Drake.

Sophomore Ashley Eck had 13 digs against both Lynn University and Nova Southeastern, helping Eckerd College volleyball improve to 18-4 with a pair of home wins.

Butler won in four sets at Providence, with sophomore Grace Boggess chipping in two kills and an ace for the Bulldogs.

Franklin

University of Indianapolis senior Andrew Bixler ran a personal-best 8K time of 25 minutes, 12.4 seconds, as the Greyhounds’ men’s cross country squad competed in the UAH Invitational.

Franklin College men’s diver Gauge Creech recorded a 12th-place finish in both the 1- and 3-meter competitions at the Indiana Intercollegiate at Purdue. In women’s competition, Grizzlies junior Regan Hendricks placed 20th in the 100 individual medley.

Ball State linebacker Clayton Coll made eight tackles and forced a fumble in the team’s 20-16 home loss to Eastern Michigan.

Marian’s Drew Byerly carried the ball twice for nine yards and a touchdown as the Knights won at Concordia (Michigan), 24-7.

Senior Javan Johnson tied for first individually with a two-round score of 142 as Taylor men’s golf, ranked No. 18 in NAIA, dominated play at the Crossroads League Preview in Laconia. Huntington golfer Quin Edwards tied for 34th with scores of 83 and 81.

IUPUI volleyball lost in four sets at PFW, with Jaguars junior Brooke Phillips finishing with 14 digs and an assist.

Whiteland

Franklin College freshman Brenna Atchison helped the tennis team’s No. 2 doubles duo pick up a point as the Grizzlies downed visiting Johnson University (Tennessee), 5-4.

Greenwood

Freshman defensive specialist Melia Gorrell had eight digs, an assist and one ace for Wheeling (West Virginia) volleyball in a victory against host West Virginia Wesleyan. Her four digs and two assists helped Wheeling score a 3-0 sweep at Davis & Elkins.

Junior Maecee Terhune scored a straight-sets win at No. 4 singles for Franklin College, but lost against Johnson University (Tennessee) in No. 1 doubles in the Grizzlies’ 5-4 home victory.

Franklin College senior diver Faith Jackson took ninth-place on the 1-meter board and 10th in the 3-meter competition at the Indiana Intercollegiate at Purdue.

Wabash College freshman linebacker Gavin Ruppert made three tackles as the Little Giants routed host Oberlin, 66-20.

Edinburgh

Franklin College freshman Bethany Burton rallied from losing the first set to pick up a win at No. 5 singles in the team’s 5-4 win over Johnson University (Tennessee).

Roncalli

UIndy middle hitter Grace Hegwood (Greenwood) led her team’s four-set win at Southwest Baptist with 20 kills, 15 digs, two assists and two service aces. The senior had nine kills and eight digs in a loss at Drury.
