Mary Ellen (Sears) Waltz

Greenwood

Mary Ellen (Sears) Waltz, born July 8, 1925, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2022 at the age of 97. A lifelong Indiana resident, she lived in numerous towns as a child, but spent the bulk of her life in Greenwood.

She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1943 and married Vincent Waltz, a WWII veteran, in 1946. They raised three children, Greg Waltz (spouse Nancy), Brian Waltz (spouse Lynne) and Bill Waltz (spouse Debbie). Vincent died in 2002. Mary Ellen is survived by her three sons, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen was devoted to her family and her faith. She consistently demonstrated her love and inner strength throughout her long life, by caring for and loving those that raised her, her devotion to her husband, her sons, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her interaction with extended family, her companions, friends and neighbors, and all those with whom she shared her life.

Mary Ellen taught Sunday school for years, participated in social groups of all kinds as well as working part-time once her sons were grown. She was always active and simply lived her life well. She was notorious for her bad jokes and silly sense of humor. Mary Ellen loved to teach her grandchildren new (old) games. And she was always gracious toward and accepting of others. In short, she positively affected many lives and will be greatly missed. She will continue to live in all our hearts.

Thanks to all who have shown her love and friendship in some way. This includes a wide range of people from her childhood and those she met throughout her life, including Floyd McDonald whom she cherished in her later years, and most recently to those who provided care for her as a resident of Greenwood Village South.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with Pastor Shan Rutherford officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to add to her legacy by contributing, in her honor, to a cause or purpose that is important to you and those you love.
