John William Spiker

FRANKLIN

John William Spiker, 76, passed away on December 10, 2022 at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community. He was a longtime resident of Franklin.

John was born on October 12, 1946 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to David and Donna (Brooks) Spiker. He married Nancy (Drake) Spiker on November 9, 1968. She preceded him in passing on June 29, 2018.

He is survived by his sisters, Amy Spiker and Jo (Spiker) Devlin (Paul); sister-in-law, Linda Drake Kenny; David Byers who was like a brother to John; and numerous nieces and nephews. John is preceded in passing by his parents and wife, Nancy.

John was a graduate of Spring Valley High School in Spring Valley, New York. He graduated from Franklin College in 1968. He worked as a school teacher at Union Elementary for 45 years before his retirement. He was very loved and respected by the Union community and taught 3 generations.

He was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the Lamba Ki Alpha fraternity. John enjoyed his breakfast buddies and going out to eat with his friends.

Rev. Evie Stuard will conduct a celebration of life service on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton Street (U.S. 31) in Franklin. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Nancy Drake and John Spiker Memorial Endowed Scholarship at Franklin College, 101 Branigin Blvd, Franklin, Indiana 46131.
