Trojans win own invitational

Host Center Grove swept its invitational meet on Wednesday, with the boys narrowly edging Ohio state champion University School by a narrow 609.5 to 606 margin and the girls easily outpointing runner-up Bloomington South, 782-544. Evan Hernandez won the 50-yard freestyle for the Trojans boys and anchored all three victorious relays, including the decisive 400 freestyle relay. Henry Lyness won the 50 backstroke, Sam Smith the 200 freestyle and Aleks Parsetich the 1,000 free.

The girls also swept the relays and got individual wins from Mia Prusiecki (diving), Grace Clarkston (50 back), Kayla Fischer (200 butterfly), Lexi Stuart (50 free) and Lara Phipps (100 IM).

Grizzly Cubs compete at North Central

Franklin’s boys and girls finished fifth in a strong six-team field in the Panther Invitational at North Central. Allie Lacy had the top individual finish for the Grizzly Cubs, placing second in the girls 100-yard backstroke.

Braves secure tourney title

Class 3A No. 3 Indian Creek claimed the Bloom Bank Classic championship with a 68-45 victory over Pike on Wednesday at Lebanon. The Braves (16-0) got 21 points from Lauren Foster, 16 points and 10 rebounds from Faith Wiseman, 12 points from Savannah Hall, nine points from Ayla Lollar and eight points, nine boards and nine assists from Abby Fleetwood.

Lancers defeated in title game

Host Edinburgh was defeated by Indianapolis Lutheran, 56-46, in the championship game of its holiday tournament on Wednesday night. Caleb Dewey scored 17 points and Connor Ramey 16 for the Class A No. 9 Lancers (7-3).

Cougars come up short of crown

Greenwood Christian fell to Class A No. 7 Bethesda Christian, 48-36, in the championship game of the Monrovia Holiday Classic. Evan McIntire led the Cougars (5-4) with 15 points, followed by Max Booher with 12.

Warriors advance to final

Whiteland earned a spot in the title game at the Clay City Classic by defeating Tri-West, 81-57. The Warriors (4-6) will play the host Eels for the championship tonight.

Franklin College

Women’s basketball drops road tilt

Franklin College lost at Eureka, 78-68, on Wednesday afternoon. Lauryn Bates paced the Grizzlies (5-5) with 15 points, and she was joined in double figures by CiCi Bailey (12 points) and Sarah O’Day (11).

Football

Five Royals sign college letters

Roncalli had five seniors sign letters of intent to continue their football careers at the collegiate level. Trevor Lauck will head to the University of Iowa, Brady Neu to Central Michigan and Luke Skartvedt to Northern Illinois, while Luke Billerman and Jackson McNeeley are both bound for St. Francis.
