Boyd Parsons

GREENWOOD, INDIANA

Boyd Parsons, age 79, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2022. Boyd was born on May 18, 1943 on the McFarland Creek Farm, that sat on the Kentucky/Tennessee line, to John and Mary (Coleman) Parsons. He was very proud of his southern farm roots. He attended school in Celina, Tennessee. He married Julia Bernice Belcher on December 30, 1961 and settled his young family in Celina and lived there until 1972 when he moved to Indiana with his family to begin a career with General Motors Chevrolet Truck and Bus. During his time with GM, he also worked at the Detroit Diesel-Allison’s Wentzville, Missouri and Ft. Wayne, Indiana plants, retiring in 2006 after 34 years. He was a proud union member of UAW Local 2209 as well as a member of the Masons.

Boyd enjoyed life and never met a stranger. Whether you were family or a stranger, he loved sharing his sense of humor and life stories with you as well as hearing a good story. He had lifelong friends who he still spoke to often.

After retirement, Boyd continued his lifelong love of gardening and shared his bounties with his family, friends, and neighbors. You could also find Boyd in his garage making custom canes and walking sticks for which he became to be known as the “Cane Man”. He also loved being outdoors. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Boyd is survived by wife, Julia Bernice; his two daughters, Rissa (Gary) Herndon of New Palestine, IN and Tammy (Bill) York of Acton, IN; 4 grandchildren, Melissa (Mike) Gipson, Jennifer (Jake) Pyrcioch, Jonathan (Chelsea) Schiewer, and Julianne (Jacob) Dale; 14 great-grandchildren and his sister, Mary Reeder of Celina, TN. He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick Bruce Parsons, his parents, and his brothers, John Edd, Avery, and Norris.

Boyd was an active member of the Whiteland Church of Christ in Whiteland, Indiana.

Boyd’s enormous heart, love, and laughter will be missed by all!

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Jessen Funeral Home &Simple Cremation ~ Whiteland Chapel. Services will also be held in Celina, Tennessee at Upton Hay Funeral Home with final burial at New Hope Cemetery in Celina.
