GIRLS BASKETBALL

Trojans notch two wins to claim tourney

Center Grove won its own holiday tournament on Thursday, defeating Linton-Stockton, 57-24, in a first-round matchup, and Jeffersonville in the championship game, 64-41.

Junior wing Audrey Annee led the way for the Trojans (12-4) against Linton, tallying 14 points with sophomore Lilly Bischoff adding 10 and junior guard Aubrie Booker eight. In the final, Annee paced CG with 20 points, while Rachel Wirtz added 11 and senior guard Ella Hobson eight as the team extended its win streak to eight entering a January 6 game at Carmel.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Whiteland wins Clay City event

Whiteland scored a 39-38 victory over host Clay City in the title game of the Clay City holiday tournament. The Warriors (5-6) placed four players on the all-tournament team in Austin Willoughby, Wiatt McLaughlin, Jazz Banwait and D.J. Helm.

McLaughlin had 15 points in the final, followed by Banwait with 10. The team opened the day with an 81-57 defeat of Tri-West in a semifinal.

Center Grove remains unbeaten

Class 4A No. 8 Center Grove upped its record to 9-0 with a 73-62 win against South Bend Riley in the first round of the Phil Cox tournament hosted by Kokomo. Senior guard Marcus Ankney scored 29 points and junior guard Joey Schmitz 16 to propel CG into the semifinals.

Next for the Trojans is today’s noon semi against the host Wildkats (6-3), ranked sixth.
