Trojans compete at Prairie View

Center Grove tied for fifth with a team score of 307 in the State Preview at Prairie View on Saturday, finishing just three strokes out of second place and 11 behind winner Guerin Catholic. Drew Hardin and Brody Holubar each shot a 74 for the Trojans, tying for sixth on the individual leaderboard.

Men’s golf third in conference

Franklin College placed third in the HCAC championships, which concluded Sunday at Terre Haute Country Club. Braxton Christie earned all-conference honors after shooting a three-round total of 221 (+8), tied for seventh individually, and Carter Giggy tied for 12th with a 225.

Men’s tennis falls in HCAC semi

Franklin College got the better of top-seeded Rose-Hulman in doubles play but couldn’t carry the upset bid over into singles, taking a 5-2 road loss in the semifinal round of the HCAC tournament on Saturday. Dustin Garrison and Ezra Schwier were an 8-3 winner in the No. 1 spot for the Grizzlies (9-13), with Marcus Cox and Lucas Densford adding an 8-6 victory at No. 3.

Softball splits doubleheader

Wrapping up the regular season at Manchester, Franklin College stormed to a 10-2 win in the opening game before closing with a 7-4 setback. Eriana Wagner homered twice in the opener for the Grizzlies (26-12, 15-3 HCAC), while Kendall Lowry went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs.

Franklin will bein conference tournament play Thursday as the No. 2 seed and play the Mount St. Joseph-Earlham winner.

Baseball wraps with sweep

After being swept at home by Bluffton on Saturday by scores of 9-4 and 9-5, Franklin College bounced back Sunday and closed the regular season with 4-3 and 15-6 victories at Anderson. Ninth-inning RBI singles by A.J. Sanders and Tysen Lipscomb won the opener for the Grizzlies (20-20, 9-13 HCAC), while Dyllan Redmon homered and Garrett DeHart went 4 for 5 in the nightcap.

Franklin managed to clinch the sixth and final spot in this week’s conference tournament in Kokomo, where it will open against Rose-Hulman.
