The Johnson County Coroner’s Office this morning identified the County Line Road shooting victim as Richard Donnell Hamilton, 43, of Indianapolis.
According to Indiana State Police, preliminarily, it is believed the white work van in which the victim was riding in, was targeted by occupants of a silver passenger car as they exited I-65 northbound to County Line Road. It is unknown at this time how many shots were fired or the exact motive of the crime, an ISP news release says.
Detectives are asking anyone with dash cameras, who were in the area of I-65 and County Line Road in Greenwood Indiana around 6:20 – 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to review their cameras and contact the Indiana State Police at 317-899-8577.
Anybody with information about this crime can also anonymously report information to CrimeStoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
This investigation is still active and ongoing.
8:19 p.m. UPDATE
A man is dead after police say he was shot while riding in the passenger seat of a van driving on County Line Road in Greenwood.
The shooting occurred just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on County Line Road near the Interstate 65 interchange, said Cameron Bottema, Indiana State Police public information officer.
He said the gunman fired on a white van, which was occupied by the victim and a female driver. The driver is in OK physical condition, Bottema said.
A suspect has not been identified in the shooting, and police have not been able to determine what motivated the incident, or any connection between the gunman and the victim as of Wednesday night. A description of the suspect or their vehicle is unknown at this time, Bottema said.
State police are continuing to investigate the incident, and ask any witnesses who were in the County Line Road area around 6:30 p.m. to call 911 if they saw anything.
The County Line Road exit off of I-65 North and eastbound traffic in that around along the road remained closed as of 8 p.m.
The identity of the deceased male was not released Wednesday and the death remains under investigation by the Johnson County Coroner’s office.
Greenwood Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident with the state police.

The exit ramp from Interstate 65 North onto County Line Road in Greenwood is closed due to reported police activity.
The exit ramp is expected to be closed for the next hour an a half, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation’s TrafficWise site that reported a “hazard on the roadway” just before 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Greenwood police have blocked the exit and eastbound traffic on County Line Road near Emerson Avenue.
