Trojans dominate sectional prelims

Center Grove itself up well for the weekend with a strong showing during the Franklin Sectional preliminaries on Thursday evening. The defending champion Trojans filled 23 of a possible 24 spots in individual championship finals and also go into the finals with the top seed in each of the three relays. Lara Phipps will be seeded first in both the 200-yard individual medley and 100 butterfly, while Kayla Fischer led the way in the 500 freestyle.

The host Grizzly Cubs earned 15 individual spots in individual A finals and also advanced two relays, but their team title hopes took a big hit when their 400 freestyle relay team was disqualified. Earning top seeds for Franklin were Lili Ratzlaff (100 and 200 freestyle), Jovie Mowrey (100 backstroke) and Kathleen Lacy (100 breaststroke).

Greenwood has eight individual swims and three relays in championship finals; Whiteland, which also advance all three of its relays, has four individual A finalists.

Diving preliminaries take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, with swimming and diving finals to follow at 1 p.m.

Royals fall to Chatard

Roncalli suffered a 60-41 home loss against Bishop Chatard on Thursday. Drew Kegerreis scored 17 points for the Royals (7-10), while Nolan Tunny added nine.
