College notebook: Shepherd records another top-20 finish

Duke senior and Center Grove graduate Erica Shepherd picked up the 14th top-20 finish of her collegiate golf career, tying for 18th with a three-round score of 225 at the Nexus Collegiate Invitational.

Center Grove

Senior catcher Jordyn Rudd helped Northwestern softball win two of four games at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with totals of five hits, three runs and five runs driven in.

University of Indianapolis softball senior Piper Belden had three hits and scored four runs as the Greyhounds opened the season winning five of six games at the UAH Charger Chillout.

Sophomore pitcher Drue Young got the start for Indiana Wesleyan baseball in its 11-7 win over Cumberland, allowing seven hits and striking out six batters in four innings.

Indiana sophomore pole vaulter Taylor Jarosinski finished seventh at the Hoosier Hills indoor track and field meet, clearing a best of 12 feet, 2½ inches.

Drake Buchanan, a freshman wrestler at Air Force, won three of four matches at 184 pounds at the Rookie Mountain Open to finish his season with a 17-6 record.

Senior guard Spencer Piercefield finished with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists for Indiana Wesleyan in its 82-76 decision over visiting Marian.

Led by the 28 points and 11 rebounds of senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, Indiana men’s basketball won at Michigan, 62-61. Jackson-Davis nearly achieved a triple-double with 23 points, 10 boards and eight assists in a 64-62 loss to Northwestern.

Senior guard Cassidy Hardin made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds and had three assists in Purdue’s 76-61 victory over visiting Northwestern in women’s basketball.

Truman State junior Claire Rake buried four treys for 12 points in the team’s 90-87 loss to Lewis.

senior guard Emma Utterback finished with eight points as Vermont women’s basketball picked up a 58-39 win at UMass-Lowell. She added nine points, four rebounds and four assists as the Catamounts ran their win streak to 11 games with a 43-36 victory at New Hampshire.

Bentley guard Ella Thompson had five points and three rebounds in the team’s 49-48 loss to visiting Pace. She had 15 points and four rebounds as the Falcons bounced back with a 67-32 defeat of visiting St. Rose .

Greenwood

Franklin College senior Faith Jackson won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at the HCAC championships.

Junior wrestler Nick Willham returned from an injury for 18th-ranked Indiana in its 23-18 loss at No. 2 Michigan, winning his match at 197 pounds by a score of 5-2.

Junior Dominique Proctor and senior Lexy Rees produced respective totals of five and six hits as the University of Indianapolis softball team won five of six games to open the season at the UAH Charger Chillout.

Franklin College sophomore Noah McCracken finished fourth in the men’s 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:45.92 at the Hoosier Hills indoor track and field meet. Mallory Watson was fourth in the women’s 1,000 run in 3:26.23 and fifth in the mile in 5:52.78.

Sophomore center Gavin Dowling had six assists and two rebounds for Anderson men’s hoops in its 91-63 victory over Transylvania. He finished with four points, three rebounds and three assists in the Ravens’ 80-66 win at Rose-Hulman.

Franklin

Franklin College senior Gauge Creech won the 1- and 3-meter diving titles at the HCAC championship. The Grizzly women won the team title as freshman Jyllian Antle was named top newcomer afte taking second in the 200 backstroke and junior Regan Hendricks won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:30.94.

Sophomore Drew McGaha finished seventh in the 800-meter run in 1:59.94 at the Hoosier Hills indoor meet. Teammate Eli Cochrane, a junior, was ninth in 2:00.68. Junior Peyton Ruble ran on the Grizzlies’ fourth-place 4×400 relay that clocked a 3:45.95.

Eastern Kentucky men’s golfer Matt Jordan won two of his three matches as the team opened its spring season at the Carpenter-Chaney Match Play tournament.

Whiteland

Manchester men’s basketball edged visiting Hanover, 74-72, with Spartans guard Logan Willoughby totaling 17 points and four rebounds. The sophomore had nine points, five assists and three boards in an 84-62 victory over Bluffton.

Senior Carter Crowe had 18 points, two assists and two steals to lead Franklin College past Bluffton, 63-59. He had five points, three rebounds and two steals in a 76-68 loss at Mount St. Joseph.

Indian Creek

Butler freshman Emily Todor scored one of her team’s runs in a 7-6 victory over Marshall at the Spring Games/Northern Lights softball tournament. Todor had an RBI single in a 13-2 loss to Colgate.

Greenwood Christian

Sophomore Styles McCorkle scored seven points and junior forward Champ McCorkle added five points and three rebounds for Wabash College in its 80-70 victory over visiting Hiram. Champ McCorkle went for three points and a team-high nine boards off the bench in a 58-56 overtime loss at Wittenberg.

Roncalli

Sophomore guard Maddie Bischoff (Greenwood) scored nine points and had two steals to help Ball State women’s basketball win at Akron, 61-56. In the Cardinals’ 78-53 triumph over visiting Ohio, Bischoff scored 14 points.
