Sharon Jean Murray

Sharon Jean (VanDyke) Murray, 77, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Community South Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Sharon was born June 30,1945 in Beech Grove, IN to Wallace Lee and Lora Catherine (Boring) VanDyke. Her first two high school years were at Monrovia High School, but later moved to the Center Grove area and graduated from Center Grove High School in 1963.

On October 22, 1966 she married Gary Lee Murray.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Cathy (Scott) Lasley and a brother Redgie (RayeAnne) VanDyke.

Following high school, she worked at Employers Group Insurance for six years. Later she spent twenty-seven years as a Teachers Aide working for Johnson County Special Services at Earlywood, Center Grove and Franklin schools. She also was with Greenwood Head Start for two years. She loved to vacation on the beach, especially in Siesta Key, FL and two cruises to the Caribbean and Hawaiian Islands.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Gary; two children, Brian (Michelle) Murray, Angela (Tony) Delello; four grandchildren, Keelee Delello, Avery Delello, Megan Murray and Brandon Murray; her siblings Linda (Bob) Poehler, Skip (Pam) VanDyke, Kay (Bill) Riley, Danny (Christina) VanDyke and Jacqui (Randy) Dakin; brother-in-law Steve (Kathy) Murray and many nieces and nephews.

She was a long time member of Bluff Creek Christian Church, and Pastor Jeremy Towne will conduct the service on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 11:00 Am At Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory-Greenwood Chapel. Friends and family will gather on Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home, and from 10:00 AM until time of service on Thursday. Sharon will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider contributions to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the chapel.
