Marilyn Delores Nettles, Franklin, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024, at Otterbein SeniorLife Community in Franklin at the age of 82. Marilyn, born on July 29, 1941, in LaPorte, IN, was the daughter of Russell Roy Biehl and Evelyn Virginia Rainier Biehl.

Marilyn graduated in 1959 from Rolling Prairie High School. She studied elementary education at Purdue University which is where she and Ken began their love story. Marilyn graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Purdue and later with a Master’s degree from Indiana University. She worked for over 30 years as an elementary school teacher until her retirement in 2006.

In her free time, Marilyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life growing flowers and vegetables. She lovingly transplanted 100’s of daffodils over the years which have grown to thousands that now line their driveway at the farm. Marilyn loved feeding and watching the birds that frequent the woods surrounding her home. She was ever a student of history and loved traveling with Ken and their children every summer to new locations where they could appreciate nature or learn about US history. Marilyn also enjoyed crocheting and sewing, was a member of the Trafalgar Extension Homemakers Association for over 30 years, and was a long-time supporter of Johnson County 4-H. She was a member of Trafalgar Christian Church.

Marilyn’s heart overflowed with love for her family, and she was preceded in death by her cherished husband of over 61 years, Kenneth Nettles, on April 25, 2021. Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her son, Nelson (Amy) Nettles of Greenwood, IN, and her daughter, Cynthia Nettles (Craig) Healey of Greenwood, IN. Marilyn also leaves behind her dear brother, Keith (Charlene) Biehl of Cape May Courthouse, NJ. Her memory will forever be cherished by her five adoring grandchildren: Andrew, Alexander, Samantha, Claire, and Mia.

Visitation will take place from 4-7PM, Friday, April 26, at Wilson St.Pierre Funeral Service &Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main Street. Pastor Deb Baker will officiate a funeral service at 10:30AM, Saturday, April 27 at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Nineveh Cemetery.
