INDIANAPOLIS
Linda Ruth Gilkison, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 7, 2023. She was born on May 15, 1941 in Elwood, Indiana to the late Floyd and Ruth Closser.
She received her Masters Degree from Ball State University. She was a member of Psi Iota Xo for 20 years. She volunteered on the Victoria Guild Board and at the Inner Church Food Pantry. She began playing the piano at her church in Roann, Indiana at the age of 11 and continued playing at various churches throughout her life. She loved spending time with her sister, Louise. Thursdays were their day that they had lunch and shopped together. She loved traveling and girls trips.
Linda and Richard enjoyed dinner with their friends on Friday nights. She loved spending time with her 8 grandchildren and attending their activities and events. She was an avid sports fan and loved to talk politics.
Her love of books led her to a career as a librarian in several schools for over 35 years. Linda was a prolific reader. She loved books and would read just about anything with print.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard L. Gilkison; children, Anthony (Jody) Gilkison; Amy (Matt) Shockley, Anne (Paul) Griese; grandchildren, Jake, Josh, Jordan, Grace, Sam, Olivia, Louis, and Violet; siblings, Dave Closser, Louise Frieden and John Closser.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the memorial service time at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.
