Local police arrest 32 in multi-agency child solicitation sting

Local police arrested 32 men as part of a three-day child solicitation sting, officials announced Friday.

Members of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Police Department and the Edinburgh Police Department took part in the operation that ran from April 18 to April 20. Eleven men were arrested on the first day, followed by 13 on Day 2 and eight on the final day, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The operation took place at a property on the 300 block of East County Line Road in Greenwood, and men traveled from as far as Tennessee before being arrested by police. The 32 men, whose ages ranged from 21 to 62, were arrested on charges ranging from child solicitation to making unlawful propositions to drug possession charges. Collectively, the men were arrested on 61 total charges, the news release says.

Across four operations by JCSO and FPD, 81 suspects have been arrested. The agencies are dedicated to protecting the community from sexual predators, officials said in the news release.

Officials also appreciate the hard work and dedication of the officers who “work tirelessly to bring these perpetrators to justice,” Franklin Police Chief Kirby Cochran said in the news release.

This operation marks the first time Edinburgh Police participated, and Chief Doyne Little joined other investigators in making the operation successful, Sheriff Duane Burgess said in the news release.

Local police also worked with the prosecutor’s office and Prosecutor Lance Hamner for the operation.

“We are committed to protecting the children of our county by putting a stop to the sick and perverted practice of soliciting children for sex,” Hamner said in the release.

Burgess also highlighted the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, as the agency conducted its first child solicitation sting last week.

“I applaud (Brown County) Sheriff Brad Stogsdill and his team in being proactive,” Burgess said in the news release.

JCSO, FPD, EPD and the prosecutor’s office will continue to be proactive in all aspects of law enforcement, and will continue to have child solicitation stings, Burgess said.

“Protecting our children is our number one goal in Johnson County,” he said in the news release.
