The North Split interchange that connects Interstate 65 and Interstate 70 in downtown Indianapolis is set to completely reopen Monday.
With the reopening of the interchange, which has been closed for construction since 2020, drivers will once again be able to drive on I-65 through downtown without leaving the interstate or resorting to a detour on Interstate 465. Drivers will also be able to drive from Interstate 70 on the southside to I-65 on the northside without exiting the interstate or using I-465. Northbound lanes will open first, followed by southbound lanes, according to a construction update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.
During work this weekend to reopen the split, drivers will face multiple short-term lane restrictions as construction crews move barrels to open lanes and install pavement markings. When the revamped interchange opens, drivers won’t have access to I-65 south via the Delaware/11th Street ramp and will only be able to access the Meridian/Pennsylvania Street exit through I-65 north, INDOT officials say.
Drivers will still be able to access downtown Indianapolis through the following ramps and interchanges:
• I-70 WB collector/distributor (C/D) exit ramp to Michigan Street
• I-65 NB/ I-70 EB exit ramp to Washington Street
• I-70 WB to Martin Luther King, Jr./West Street
• I-65 SB to Meridian Street
• I-65 SB to West Street
• All existing ramps on I-70 west of the South Split

The Ohio Street and Meridian/Pennsylvania exit ramps, as well as the I-65 to C/D movement remain under construction and will likely be open by the end of May.
The North Split now has a smaller footprint, which increases walkability in surrounding neighborhoods and eliminates weaving and merging, for a more efficient traffic flow, INDOT officials say.
