Man injured in Greenwood fire

A house fire in Greenwood left one person injured Friday morning.

The Greenwood Fire Department was dispatched to the 300 block of Oak Brooke Lane at 5:36 a.m. on reports of a resident on fire. When firefighters arrived approximately five minutes later, they found the fire had engulfed the structure, said Brad Coy, assistant fire chief for the department.

Crews were able to aggressively start fighting the fires, and it was marked under control at 6:20 a.m. They continued to work on the scene perform salvage and overhaul efforts until 8:04 a.m.

“We had a great response. It was shift change, so yesterday’s crew was coming off and today’s crew was coming on, so we had overloaded engines and have a really good response,” Coy said. ”It was a heavy body of fire upon arrival, but everyone aggressively fought it and we got a really quick knockdown.”

One male resident suffered smoke inhalation issues, and was transported to Eskanazi Hospital in Indianapolis. Their condition was not known at press time, Coy said.

A dog was found deceased during search and rescue efforts.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Coy said.
