Warriors take two from Giants

Whiteland swept a doubleheader against Ben Davis on Saturday, winning by scores of 4-1 and 13-1. Donavin Woodall and Ethan Engel got the pitching wins for the Warriors (8-6), who got two doubles and two runs scored from Blake Riddle in the opener. Kevin Denham drove in five runs in the second game, with Brayden Roy and Drew Helton adding three apiece.

Lancers fall to Eagles

Edinburgh suffered a 16-4 home loss to Brown County. Gabe Bennett had two hits and an RBI for the Lancers (2-14).

Trojans win at Madison

Center Grove excelled in Saturday’s invitational at Madison, with the Red team taking first with a score of 305 and the White squad finishing third at 327. Nathan Springer and Robbie Falls each shot 73 for the Trojans, with Springer edging his teammate for medalist. Coen Bauschek added a 74, followed by Drew Hardin at 78 and James Beetz, Brady Schier and Carson Poe all at 79.

Cougars take third at Trinity

Greenwood Christian finished third at the Trinity Cougar Invitational, led a 73 by medalist Noah Reed and a 74 from Ian Reed. Parker Satre added an 83 from GCA, which turned in a total team score of 341.

Franklin competes at HOF tourney

Playing in a loaded 21-team field, Franklin placed 11th at the Hall of Fame tournament in Peru with a team score of 332. Kadin Gibson led the Grizzly Cubs with a 78, followed by Jake Lock (82), Reid Davidson (85) and Luke Bechert (87).

Roncalli finishes ninth

Jaxon Calhoun shot 77 and Nick Stewart added a 79 as Roncalli wound up ninth among 18 teams at the Ulen Invitational with a team score of 330.

Girls tennis

Warriors finish in second

Whiteland posted a 2-1 record at its own invitational, suffering a 3-2 loss to University before bouncing back with wins over Shelbyville and International. Sarah Ullrich and Rowen Starns won both of their matches at second doubles for the Warriors (9-7), with Ullrich adding a point at No. 1 singles. Candace Stephenson and Saphira Brown each had two singles victories, with Cathy Nguyen and Kinsey Shipp winning twice at No. 1 doubles.

Center Grove loses twice

No. 15 Center Grove took a 4-1 loss against 14th-ranked Brebeuf and a narrow 3-2 defeat against No. 7 Zionsville. Anna Runkle and Peri Small had the Trojans’ lone point against the Braves, while Sloane Small (No. 2 singles) and the pairing of Aliyeh Boyer and Lauren Dick (No. 1 doubles) had wins against the Eagles.

Royals pick up victory

Roncalli beat Heritage Christian, 4-1. Becca Zakrowski, Lily Rutherford and Kate Ritten were singles winners for the Royals (7-2), who also got a point from Thalia Guzman and Evie Eble at second doubles.

Roncalli competes at conference

Roncalli’s boys placed fourth and the girls fifth at the Circle City Conference meet. Winning individual championships for the boys were Ben Brandenburg (high jump and long jump), Dom Morelli (110 hurdles) and Brady Rossman (pole vault).

Royals get past Cardinals

Wil Kaul scored six goals to lead Roncalli to a 17-8 victory over Southport. Scott Burke added four goals and three assists for the Royals (5-6), with Anthony Sherman and Rufus Parrott scoring three times apiece. Daniel Rosario had four assists and Sherman three.

Miscellany

Roncalli seniors sign college letters

Nine baseball and softball players from Roncalli recently signed letters of intent to continue playing at the collegiate level. Softball players moving on include Keagan Rothrock (Florida), Lyla Blackwell (Virginia Tech), Lauren Marsicek (Indiana State), Abigail Hofmann (Marian), Kaitlyn Lester (IU Southeast); Ann Marie Meek and Abby Willis will both play at Millikin. Tanner Hudspeth will play baseball at DePauw, while teammate Kyle Walker is headed to St. Xavier.

Franklin College

Women’s track fourth at HCAC meet

Franklin College hosted the HCAC outdoor championships on Saturday, with the women’s team finishing fourth and the men sixth.

Sarah O’Day won a pair of gold medals on the women’s side, taking the 100 and 200 meters with respective times of 12.36 and 25.52, while Alison Muck was named the meet’s top newcomer after winning the high jump (1.51 meters) and taking second in the 100 hurdles. Haley Makowski (800) and Taylor Tatlock (discus) each won bronze medals.

For the men, Chase Miles won the javelin (46.44 meters), while the Grizzlies also got third-place efforts from the team of Luke Paddock, Eli Cochrane, Logan McIntosh and Drew McGaha in the 4×400 relay and Zach Roberts in the 110 hurdles.

Baseball sweeps Bluffton

Franklin College hit nine home runs on the way to a home doubleheader sweep of Bluffton, winning by scores of 18-8 and 10-5. A.J. Sanders had 11 RBIs on the day for the Grizzlies (26-8, 14-2 HCAC), while Sean Sullivan added two homers and six runs batted in.
